George opened a photography gallery at 4516 Magazine Street in New Orleans in October 2006. His photographs are on display there year-round. You are invited to visit Tuesdays through Fridays, 10am - 5pm and Saturdays 10am - 4pm.

George was recently honored by the International Photographic Council to receive the ASMP/IPC Leadership Award during a ceremony at the United Nations.  In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, George supported the New Orleans photographic community and his fellow ASMP members by gathering donations of money and photo equipment to replace what was lost in the storm. And he helped photographers stay in touch through an online communication network.

George has been a member of the Professional Photographers of America since 1984.  He is a charter member of Editorial Photographers and currently serves as President of the New Orleans/Gulf South Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).

It was in 1973 that George began a 14 year career in television production, first as a studio camera operator and 16mm film photographer at KALB-TV in Alexandria, Louisiana and then nearly 13 years at the studios of WWL-TV in New Orleans as floor manager for daily news programs, commercial productions, and live remote broadcasts.

While there, he started a part-time photography business called Longshots but by 1990 had decided it was time to create his own future as a full-time photographer shooting primarily for publication.

George works regularly with celebrities and has presented six one-man shows of his fine art photographs.  Images from his extensive stock photography collection have been published worldwide.

George was born in Washington, D.C. His father,Gillis Long, served in the U.S. Congress for 14 years. When Gillis died in 1985, George's mother, Cathy Long, was elected and served one term. George is an active member of the planning committee for the annual Long Family Reunion held in Winnfield each year at the Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame. George lives with his partner, Sarah Hoffpauir, in uptown New Orleans.
