Louisiana Children's Museum - 428 Julia Street in the Warehouse District, open Tues - Sun, 9:30am - 4:30pm. Lots of hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages. Explore bubbles inside and out, drive a streetcar, be a newscaster. This is a great place.  504-523-1357

Magic Walking Tours - Alternative tours, cemeteries, voodoo, etc., for groups of ten or more.  504-588-9693

New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum - 724 Dumaine Street in the French Quarter; "tours of the undead, 8pm nightly"; 504-523-7685

New Orleans Museum of Art - Excellent art museum in City Park, open Tuesday - Sunday 10am - 5pm. With sculpture garden and small, on-site restaurant.  504-488-2631

New Orleans School of Cooking - 620 Decatur, Jackson Brewery along the River, street level. 10am - 9pm weekdays, until 10pm weekends.  504-525-2665

Ogden Museum of Southern Art - 925 Camp in the Warehouse District across from the Contemporary Arts Center. 9:30am - 5:30pm Tuesday - Sunday; until 8:30pm on Thursdays; closed Mondays.  504-539-9600

Old U.S. Mint - 400 Esplanade in the French Quarter at the River, open Tuesday - Sunday 9am - 5pm. This building houses the Louisiana State Museum Library as well as the Jazz and Carnival (Mardi Gras) museums.

Plantation Tours - River Road plantations tour departs daily at 9am from Toulouse St. at the River next to Jackson Brewery.  The Oak Alley plantation tour departs 1pm. Call Gray Line Tours at 504-587-0861.

Riverboat cruises - The Steamboat Natchez is docked at the Jackson Brewery. Offers the opportunity to feel the river and its influence on the area. Two departures daily.  504-586-8777

Swamp tours - (highly recommended) Honey Island Swamp Tour pickup available at hotels, 504-242-5877;  Cypress Swamp Tour also has pickup at hotels and elsewhere.  504-581-4501

Wax Museum - Museé Conti Wax Museum, 917 Conti,  I found this to be much more interesting than I thought it would be.  10-5:30pm M-Sat, 12-5:30pm Sun; 504-525-2605
